After recently announcing the recurrence of the non-Hodgkins lymphoma he was diagnosed with in February and subsequently quitting the TV action series that propelled him to stardom in the US, the one-time engineer and father-of-two has been seen around town looking frail. DARREN DEVINE profiles the actors hoping to take the step from small screen star to Hollywood heavyweight Andy Whitfield (pictured) Northwest Wales acting talent, Andy Whitfield, from Amlwch, on Anglesey, initially left the island to study at Sheffield University. In 1999 he moved to Australia with future wife Vashti and began acting while working as an engineer and building inspector for a consulting agency. Whitfield found work as a model before becoming a regular on Australian screens in recent years, appearing in the drama McLeod’s Daughters and medical show Out of the Blue.
