THE creator of sexy sword and sandals series Spartacus: Blood and Sand says the Welsh former star of the show Andy Whitfield is fighting cancer “like a true champion”.
Producer and screenwriter Steven DeKnight, known for working on Smallville, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, says he “has the upmost faith” Whitfield, 36, of Amlwch, Anglesey, will win his fight against non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Dad-of-two Whitfield, who as a child was a regular at the Plaza Cinema, Bangor, played the famous defiant gladiator in the first season of Spartacus:Blood and Sand before he was forced to drop out last year when first diagnosed with the condition.
De Knight said: “Andy, of course, is being very private about his condition and what he’s going through with his family.
“The last thing I heard, he was attacking it like a true champion and I have the upmost faith he will pull through with flying colours.”
